Creating Great Content? Stop Writing It
Editing is one of the more creative activities in the writing process. Instead of editing like an editor, which is often as mechanical as flipping a page through a magazine, we should treat editing like the creative process it is, moving from one point to another until the piece has evolved in a way that does it justice. The funny thing about writing is that we can think of editing as something that stops us from completing a piece. In truth, we never edit a piece. We edit the process, the process that we’ve brought into play as we continue to develop.
The process is the same with editing. As you move through your process, you find yourself again and again at a point where you have to stop and reflect on what you’ve been through. That’s when it’s important to do something like open a new file, change your mindset, and edit with your new outlook.
